LINDSEY FAMILY PRESENTS
OLD-TIME MUSIC & ART
January 11, 7p.m./Cultural Arts Center, 100 Rusk St. Mt. Vernon

David and Annette Lindsey live in Bennington, Oklahoma. Both are retired educators and accomplished musicians. Their daughters, Cara and Angie also join in the music as well known musicians. Cara is a former Texas State Hammer Dulcimer champion. Angie plays as much as she can, when her own family can spare her.

David is the owner of David’s Dulcimers and has been building Hammer Dulcimers since 1984. Annette stays busy with helping David in the shop, her family, and teaching Mountain Dulcimer. She takes painting lessons in Paris, TX from Jamie Carter, and is quite accomplished in painting from old photographs. An exhibit of her art will be displayed during the event. Following in their parent’s footsteps, Cara is a high school music teacher and Angie teaches elementary grades.

When they bought their farm the Lindsey’s had a vision of one day having a Dulcimer Festival. About fifteen years ago a group got together and started planning. Today, they host the Winter Creek Reunion Dulcimer Festival the second weekend of October every year. David built a barn that is now called the “Music Barn” and this year the Red River Valley Dulcimer Club built a full stage and Green Room for the entertainers to get ready to go on stage. Other improvements like a full campground were added two years ago and more improvements will be coming.

David and Annette started the “Sweet Song String Band” that includes eight other musicians. They play at many Civil War Reenactments and Contra Dances and often play at weddings and churches. In 2013, they organized a Dulcimer Festival in Red River New Mexico. Most of the Red River Valley Club members (from Oklahoma and Texas) went to support this new festival.

The Lindsey’s are a fun and talented family to be around. You can see that  in their music, and there is lots of laughter and smiles. You will not be disappointed in their performance. Come join us!!
