FCAA & FRANKLIN COUNTY LIBRARY PRESENT TWICE UPON A TIME STORYTELLERS

Kids love hearing a good story!

And why should kids have all the fun?

Twice Upon a Time Storytellers, Gene and Peggy Helmick-Richardson, will be sharing tales twice at the Cultural Arts Center, 100 RUSK St. in Mt. Vernon, on Friday, August 9. Once for children and once for adults, both programs are free and open to the public.

Kids will be treated to “Different Ways to Tell a Story” from 2 to 3 p.m. that day. This storytelling program incorporates activities, such as origami, magic tricks, singing and using different voices, into the tales. This program is recommended for ages 5 through 12.

Adults and teens can come to the Cultural Arts Center at 6 p.m. for Twice Upon a Time’s “Fairy, Folk and Fantasy Tales for Adults.” The audience will hear such tales as the story of a woman outwitting a dragon by famed sci-fi and fantasy author Orson Scott Card and learning a little more about the inspiration behind the Star Wars series.

Sponsored by Friends of the Franklin County Library & Franklin County Arts Alliance, these programs have been made possible by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Traveling from preschools to prisons, Twice Upon a Time Storytellers have been sharing their tales together since 1999 and been on the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Artists Roster for over 10 years. Gene and Peggy's presentations blend this ancient oral tradition with personal narrative, science, history, modern nuance, cultural diversity and sometimes a soupcon of silliness to show the world in many new and imaginative ways.
