REMINDER: "Getting To Know Your Camera" WORKSHOP, SATURDAY, MAY 31ST

Below is a bio on our Photo Instructor, Michael Alford in his own words.  He has also included an Agenda for the "Getting To Know Your Camera" Workshop: Saturday, May 31st, 10am-12pm.  The workshop will be held at the Cultural Arts Center, 100 Rusk St. (one block west of courthouse) in Mt. Vernon. To reserve a place in the workshop, email Christian Galloway: franklincountyarts@gmail.com.

My name is Michael Alford, and I have been interested in photography all of my life. My mother kept stacks of photo albums and our walls were covered with portraits. Film, Polaroid, and Instamatic cameras amazed with their ability to freeze time. After teaching Special Education for 10 years I went back to school and became an Engineer for Intel and was captivated by digital photography when it was first introduced to the public. I have been taking digital photos since 1995 starting with a Kodak DC40. I am currently use a Nikon D7000 camera and living on Lake Winnsboro.

When I was younger I took every evening Photoshop class offered at the Berkeley, CA community college. I also joined the Berkeley Camera Club and met photographers who inspired and challenged me to become a better photographer. Today, I believe that photography is an art form requiring careful consideration of composition and color. My favorite subjects are found in nature.

I am the former president of the Winnsboro In-Focus Camera Club and a member of the Winnsboro Center of the Arts. The purpose of the free workshop taking place at the FCAA Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, May 31 (10am-12pm) is to explore the interest level of scheduling photography classes in Mt. Vernon from basic skills to advanced techniques. I hope you will attend this interactive, question and answer, hands on, free workshop. Please bring your camera, instruction manual and questions.
