Old Oak for Wood Carvers

We got a call this week from a family who had a really old oak tree struck by lightning. They would love to donate the wood to any artist interested. So if you are a wood carver interested in old oak give us a call @ 903-434-9130, and we will let the family know. Thanks!

HEALING THROUGH THE ARTS

The arts have proven to be an effective way to facilitate healing, whether through painting, writing, cooking, or countless other artforms.  The Franklin County Arts Alliance will be holding a meeting at the Cultural Arts Center on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 9:00am about Healing Through the Arts.

At this meeting we will be discussing ways to move forward with this program and would love input from members of our community.  Age is not a factor here, nor is membership in our organization.  We just want to hear what you have to say.  Maybe you would like to help facilitate a workshop, or perhaps, you feel this might help you.

So please come down to the Cultural Arts Center and join us.  We look forward to seeing you there.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS

As most of you know, we at the Franklin County Arts Alliance held a Mad Hatter Tea and Fashion Show, May 3, 2012.  We asked that attendees bring any unwanted jewelry as a donation for entrance.  We exchanged the gold and silver.  However, we also received some great costume jewelry.

This is where those of you with creative minds come in.  We would like to have any artists interested (You do not have to be a member of the FCAA.) come to the Cultural Arts Center on Friday, July 27, 2012, between 10:30am and 2:30pm to look through the costume jewelry.  You would then use it in a piece/pieces of original artwork.  Our one stipulation is that the artwork must be donated to the FCAA for sale at a fundraising auction.

On September 7, 2012, we will be holding a Wine & Cheese Reception with both a Silent Auction and a Live Auction of this artwork as a continuation of our Mad Hatter Tea fundraising efforts.

So be zany, be creative, have fun!  Come and join us!

ART MAKES A DIFFERENCE

The Mt. Vernon Welcome Wall was an early project of the Franklin County Arts Alliance and accomplished with the aid of a grant from the Texas State Highway Department.  The City of Mt. Vernon cares for the wall.
