The Photographer: How the Rain Falls
The year is 1929. James Lewis is a police photographer in a small suburb. His job involves high risks and little reward. Jem finds himself struggling to find a true standard of justice amid his turbulent times. Ella Reinhardt is a banker’s daughter. Her mother died at an early age and Ella is left alone in their spacious home with her preoccupied father and a mystery her mother left behind. Jem and Ella are linked together as, quietly and unobtrusively, a thundercloud threatens to drench them in a downpour that will reveal a mystery and leave an indelible mark. In every life there are hard choices to make. Only God can know what the world will look like beyond the storm. Shot by Sam Ramsey in Tyler and Winnsboro, Texas, summer 2007.

The Franklin County Arts Alliance sponsored our first ever Film Competition this year.  We have redesigned the Premier Showing scheduled for December 21, 2012, the same date indicated by the Mayan Calendar as the end of an age and are especially pleased to announce the presentation of a 55-minute film titled The Photographer.  The movie was produced in our local area entirely by Winnsboro native, Sam Ramsey (now of Austin).  The evening will also feature short- film presentations Bob & Donna McFarland and Liz Etheridge.

GINGERBREAD & JINGLE BELLS

GINGERBREAD THEME  CHOSEN FOR  COUNTRYFEST  PROJECT
         by    Linda Philhower

Franklin County Arts Alliance will provide a gingerbread themed art project at the Cultural Arts Center during Country Fest from 9 am until 3 pm.  Students are invited to come and decorate either a gingerbread man/woman ornament to be used in the Christmas decorations for the fences of the CAC.

Also during Country Fest a child sized gingerbread house will be on display.  This gingerbread house will be incorporated into a scene to be used for Christmas photos, either for families or individuals.  The photos will cost $5.00.  We will then email the photos to you.

Another Gingerbread themed program is planned for Saturday, November 10th.  All students are again invited to drop by the CAC between 10:00 and 2:00 to decorate a gingerbread ornament for the CAC’s Christmas fences.  A story time featuring the story of the gingerbread man will be presented at 11:00am.  At 1:00 that day two trained dance teams, from A Time to Dance, will perform.  The public is welcome to attend this presentation.  Students may attend any or all of the programs that day.

The ornament creations will be incorporated into gorgeous gingerbread themed garlands to surround the Cultural Arts Center during the Christmas Holidays. The festive fences will be lit for the first time on the evening of November 16th when the downtown window displays are unveiled.  You will be able to view our display throughout the holiday season.

The gingerbread house will be displayed again on the FCCA’s float during the Christmas parade on December 1st.  The public is welcome.

Today, we had our 5th Healing Through the Arts class. It was wonderful! Ron Barker came in and taught us about Emotion Through Photography. He had some really interesting things to say about different techniques to convey the emotion you wish to see in your photos.

Thus far, we have learned about Art Journaling, Mandalas, Making Seasonal Decorations for Your Home Usi
ng Objects Found in Nature, and, of course, Emotion Through Photography. Come and join us next week, for our final class in this series. This last one is a surprise! All are welcome. It will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, from 10am-12pm at the Cultural Arts Center (100 Rusk St., Mt. Vernon).

WE STILL HAVE COSTUME JEWELRY

As most of you know, we at the Franklin County Arts Alliance held a Mad Hatter Tea and Fashion Show, May 3, 2012.  We asked that attendees bring any unwanted jewelry as a donation for entrance.  We exchanged the gold and silver, but we also received some great costume jewelry.

This is where those of you with a creative mind come in.  We would like to have any artists interested (It is not required that you be a member of FCAA.) come to the Cultural Arts Center today, August 10, 2012, or next Friday, August 17, 2012, between 10:00am and 3:00pm, to look through the costume jewelry.  You would then use it in a piece/pieces of original artwork.  Our one stipulation is that your artwork must be donated to the FCAA for sale at a fundraising auction.  Any artwork you create will be due back at the Cultural Arts Center by August 24, 2012, between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

On September 7, 2012, we will be holding a Wine & Cheese Reception with both a Silent Auction and a Live Auction of this artwork as a continuation of our Mad Hatter Tea fundraising efforts.

So be zany, be creative, have fun!   Come and join us!

HEALING THROUGH THE ARTS

The Franklin County Arts Alliance presents our new Healing Through the Arts program.  The arts have proven to be an effective way to facilitate healing, whether through painting, writing, music, cooking, or countless other art forms.  Our Fall Session begins Friday, August 31, 2012 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, at the Cultural Arts Center.  This free opportunity will continue each Friday in the month of September, and the final class will be October 5, 2012.

William Shakespeare once said, "Give sorrow words."  With that in mind, for the first two Fridays, we will be focusing, primarily, on a Creative Healing Journal.  Some supplies will be provided by the FCAA.  You can bring your own journal, or we can provide you with a Composition Book or 1-Subject Spiral.  The first class day you might also bring: shoe boxes, magazines, scraps of paper, lace, and ribbon, to be used throughout the six week session.

If you have any questions or wish to let us know you will be joining us, give us a call at (903) 434-9130 or shoot an email to franklincountyarts@gmail.com.  And remember:  The Arts are good for the soul.

HEALING THROUGH THE ARTS

The arts have proven to be an effective way to facilitate healing, whether through painting, writing, cooking, or countless other artforms.  The Franklin County Arts Alliance will be holding a meeting at the Cultural Arts Center on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 9:00am about Healing Through the Arts.

At this meeting we will be discussing ways to move forward with this program and would love input from members of our community.  Age is not a factor here, nor is membership in our organization.  We just want to hear what you have to say.  Maybe you would like to help facilitate a workshop, or perhaps, you feel this might help you.

So please come down to the Cultural Arts Center and join us.  We look forward to seeing you there.

ART MAKES A DIFFERENCE

In 2008 the Franklin County Arts Alliance completed construction on the Musical Art Park as a service to the school and the entire community.  The park was made possible with the aid of a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Economic Development Corporation, donations and fundraisers.  Not only does the Musical Art Park provide an avenue for musical expression, but it also serves as a place for recreation, relaxation and musical concerts.  Looking for something different to do?  You will love this...stop by and play (pun intended) for awhile!

DID YOU KNOW?

The "Native Texan," a wire Longhorn steer sculpture by Gary Henry, was the first Art in the Community sculpture placed in Mt. Vernon by the Arts Alliance.  The sculpture is located at the Intersection of Hwy 37 and I-30 in the Prosperity Bank Parking lot.

RON BIGONY EXHIBIT

The Franklin County Arts Alliance cordially invites the public to an opening reception for Ron Bigony, to be held at the Cultural Arts Center on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 7:00pm.  Guests can look forward to light appetizers and live dulcimer music at the reception.   The exhibit will also be open on June 8th, and June 15th, (the final day) from 10:00am-3:00pm, or by appointment by calling (903) 537-4034.  Admission is free.

Mr. Bigony has won numerous awards for his paintings, most recently, the American High Winds Medal from the American Water Color Society.  This award was for his painting, “Bank Ally”, which was part of the American Water Color Society’s 145th Annual International Exhibition.  Another of his paintings, “West End Depot” will be displayed in the Western Federation of Water Color Societies 37th Annual Exhibition in Las Vegas.

Another item of interest is that Mr. Bigony has completed for commissioned paintings for the permanent collection of the new Omni Hotel in Dallas.  These paintings are located in the West End Meeting Room and will be in background shots in four episodes of the re-make of “Dallas”, a new TV series which should begin running this summer.

The FCAA is very fortunate to be exhibiting the work of this artist, and we hope you will join us at his reception on June 1st.
