The Franklin County Arts Alliance (FCAA) is doing a series of 3 FREE Youth Workshops. The series will kick-off Saturday, July 27, 2013 (1pm-3pm), with Art 101. The instructor is Rhonda Cross of the Renaissance Art Academy in Texarkana. According to their website, “Renaissance Art Academy is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of Fine Art as Renaissance Masters learned them centuries ago.” They implement the Gluck Method, pioneered by Larry Gluck, of Los Angeles, some quarter of a century ago.
This method “is a planned sequence of steps designed to give anyone the ability to draw and paint beautifully.” (www.gluckmethod.com)
The FCAA is excited for Rhonda to share this time honored method of artistic learning with our local youth!
The next workshop will be the following Saturday, August 3rd (1pm-3pm). This workshop focuses on the art of Storybook Writing, as instructed by Lisa Simmons. "Lisa loves a good picture book as much as the next person and loves to explores the reasons some books just draw the reader in. She has been published in several magazines and has two Ipad picture books with Flying Books. She lives in NE Texas with her husband and daughters and writes EVERY day -- just for the fun of it."
The final workshop is Acting 101, instructed by Christian Galloway, on Saturday, August 10th (1pm-3pm). Christian
has a Master of Science in Theatre from Texas A & M University-Commerce and
is currently employed as the Events Coordinator for the Franklin County Arts
Alliance. A few of her acting
roles include: Bella from Neil
Simon’s Lost In Yonkers, Sally in
Clark Gesner’s musical, You’re A Good Man
Charlie Brown, and Mrs. Betterton in April De Angelis’s Playhouse Creatures. For her Master’s Thesis, she played the
role of Eleanor in James Goodman’s The
Lion In Winter. According to Christian, “This workshop is going to
center around acting basics.” She
looks forward to working with the youth in our community.
All workshops will be located at the Cultural Arts Center, 100 Rusk St., Mt. Vernon, one block west of the Courthouse. Once again, these workshops are FREE to participants (paid for, in part by the St. Clair Endowment, through the Franklin County Historical Association). For more information or to register, please contact Christian Galloway at: franklincountyarts@gmail.com or (903) 434-9130.
