FRANKLIN FOLLIES ARE BACK!
7 PM, DECEMBER 3RD SCHOOL
AUDITORIUM
THANKS TO RON BARKER and his crew including
GAIL REED/WRITER AND LISA LOWERY/M.C.&MUSICIAN, the Franklin Follies are
being resurrected to help the Franklin County Arts Alliance survive. Eye
of the Beholder,
a production in the spirit of small town Mayberry is well on its way to
becoming a classic Mt. Vernon production that promises to amaze and
dazzle. So far, helping pay
expenses for the event, our thanks
go out to Mike & Janet Jordan, B.F. Hicks, and First National Bank.
RON BARKER,
director/writer and his crew that were all part of the six 1980’s Follies and
the Key Club were instrumental in helping make the Franklin County Library into
the viable institution it is today.
Also back by popular demand are cast members like Dr. Dan Hoke who
played Black Bart. Who is he this
year? You will have to buy a $10
ticket and come see. Larry Scott (Tom
Scott Lumber) and Cade Hohenberger (Brookshires) have key parts. The Courthouse Quartet alone is worth
the price of admission. Members
are County Sheriff Ricky Jones, local Dentist Dr. Don Huffstetler, Dairy Queen
maestro Joe Scally and County Judge Scott Lee. With the help of Linda Hammond,
the Wheelchair Dancers will be breathing new life into a creative dance
routine. And Stephen Marshall will
be helping produce a video musical tribute to thirteen 1980’s cast members
watching from heaven.
The Follies
answer a real need in the life of the FCAA to raise funds in support of the
2017 Art Alliance Art programming and Cultural Art Center expenses. Director
Ron Barker needs help from the whole membership. Please volunteer.
Call Ron (903) 466-3456 or email franklincountyarts@gmail.com to become a part of this fantastic
event. A come and go “Putting on
the Ritz” cast party will be held at the Cultural Arts Center following the
Follies.
DAVID STINSON-
Art Exhibit
(Join us – Dec 2, Friday
-11 am for Brunch @ the CAC in David’s honor)
Next exhibit for your
viewing pleasure is the
JACQUE STEMPEL
– Art Quilt Exhibit
The Drawings
by David Stinson Exhibit has garnered a number of visitors including
some of his class members who were in town for a class reunion. A young viewer that had come to the Jammin’
with Dylan session was particularly taken by David’s extreme attention
to detail. On December 2, Friday
morning, 11 a.m., fans are invited to attend a brunch held in David’s honor at
the Cultural Arts Center.
The exhibit
will be replaced the next week with Art Quilts by Jacque Stempel. We
continually get compliments on Jacque’s Japanese
Fan Quilt that is on permanent display at the CAC. Visitors will not be disappointed to
see her other work. Cloth is her
canvas and multicolored fabric her art media.
SELFIE BACKDROP-A SUCCESS AT COUNTRY-FEST &
TRICK OR TREAT ON THE SQUARE
What fun
Keitra Stoker (Children’s Chair), Ron Barker, and Linda Hammond provided for
Country Fest goers this year! A
selfie-backdrop was a marvelous idea and initiated interest in the Franklin
County Arts Alliance and also provided a place for families to record their
day. Thank you to all the other
volunteers as well, including Dylan McNutt, who made a special appearance and
charmed the folks with his music. We had a wonderful selfie booth, also coordinated by Keitra, Vanessa Stoker, Ron, and Linda, at Trick or Treat on the
Square last Monday. FCAA events that reach out to the children and families
in the community are partially paid for by the St. Clair Endowment Grant
dispersed by the Franklin County Historical Association.
