INFORMATION ON OUR HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD EXHIBIT

A BIT ABOUT CELLULOID
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Charlotte Chaney’s collection of celluloid (Warner Brothers) art. cel, short for celluloid, is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation. Actual celluloid (consisting of cellulose nitrate and camphor) was used during the first half of the 20th century, but since it was flammable and dimensionally unstable it was largely replaced by cellulose acetate. With the advent of computer assisted animation production, the use of cels has been practically abandoned in major productions.” (Wikipedia, com)

TYLER ROBERTS
Local artist, 28-year-old, Tyler Roberts is originally from Mt. Pleasant. He is the grandson of Lucy Ellis. He says, “My grandmother gave me the eyes to see and open the door into the artistic world. She was an amazing artist. I started focusing on portraits in 2007 after she died. Since then, I’ve drawn only about 300 portraits. And,” he jokingly adds,” I have no intention of retiring until I’ve reached 10,000.” Exhibit guests will be glad to see he plans to continue.

WALT DISNEY SKETCHES BY DIXIE (OTTO) SINK
Dixie Sink, mother of Dennie Sink of Mt. Vernon, worked for Disney as an Illustrator in the 1930s. We are privileged to show, courtesy of Charlotte Chaney, some of her sketches from that time.

FCAA & FUMC TO PARTNER IN MOVIE NIGHT THIS SATURDAY

The Franklin County Arts Alliance is partnering with the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon to present a Movie Night featuring a film called Hiding in Plain Sight, done by Dallas film company, King & Brown Enterprises.

The film will be presented this Saturday, November 2nd @ 6pm in the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary.  Admission is FREE.

Here is a bit about King & Brown Enterprises and this film.

...Eric King and Michael Brown joined forces to form Poorchild Films in 2004.  A self-taught film-maker, Michael Brown writes under his name and directs under the assumed name, M. Legend.  FCAA showed a King & Brown Enterprises short film, ‘Arthur, Autumn, and a Violin’ on June 29 at our Arts & Film Fest. FCAA and the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon will partner in presenting King & Brown Enterprises’ award winning 90-minute film, ‘Hiding in Plain Sight’ this Saturday (November 2).  This film depicts what happens when a middle class family loses their home.

FCAA COUNTRYFEST 2013 BOOTHS A SUCCESS

At the end of the day on Saturday, Oct. 12, there was not much to pack-up in our double booth at CountryFest 2013.  FCAA members helped kids paint 150 pumpkins, gave away 25 Gingerbread Houses to be decorated for Christmas, and passed out 50 information packets available at the booths that day.

Huge "THANK YOU'S" go out to Jim Cleveland, Michele Chitsey, Gary Strange, Gail Reed, and Jean Pamplin for all your hard work on Saturday!  Thank you Betsy Cook and Gail Reed for the fantastic pictures!  Thank you to people of all ages who patronized our booths !
